The seabed, sometimes down to 2,000 meters deep , is one Liguria's natural beauty. Mainly rocky, it offers an incomparable sight for lovers of sunken ships. There is a diverse ecosystem of plants and fish of various kinds .

of the island in 50 meters depth, two
notable Roman ships, full of antique
oil and wine amphorae

In the Bay of Alassio is the Gallinara Island, a marine nature reserve of the Ligurian Sea, with a typical mediterranean flora and fauna, herring gulls and cormorants nest. Around the island, at a depth of 10 to 20 meters, it is possible to find remarkable views of the underwater world.

Also, southeast of the island, in 50 meters depth, two notable Roman ships, containing ancient oil and wine amphorae . This Mediterranean area is located in the international "Sanctuary of Whales": there are a significant concentration of whales, who find a particularly good food supply .

The sailing clubs along the coast organize summer and winter sailing courses and well-known national and international events. The sailings club of Alassio , founded in 1925, organized every spring international events like the Volvo Cup and international offshore races . In addition, sailing courses for adults and children are offered on competitive level

Whale Watching

Seeing dolphins and whales in their natural habitat is an unforgettable experience and emotion-laden. The Ligurian Sea is one of the ideal homes of these marine mammals. This area contains many marine species. In collaboration with the Aquarium of Genoa and its biologists there are field trips organized for observing and exploring the Ligurian "Sanctuary of Whales"


The duration of the excursions varies between 4 and 9 hours, depending on the starting point. The ideal observation period is between March and October. The starting points are Alassio, Andora, Arenzano, Genoa, Imperia, Savona and Varazze .

Dolphins and whales up close in their natural habitat is a memorable and emotive experience .
